Barbra Streisand Release Me 180g LP (New And Sealed) (USA Pressing)

Previously Unreleased Material From The Vaults - on 180g Vinyl!

Barbra Streisand’s private music vault holds all the master tapes she’s recorded for five decades. Now, she’s sharing 11 previously unreleased songs, spanning a cross-section of her career from 1963 to the present.

For the first time Barbra Streisand has curated a release of her previously unreleased material. In an unparalleled career, Barbra has accumulated over 100 previously unreleased recordings. She has painstakingly gone through the recordings to come up with this collection - “Release Me.

Highlights include a striking version of “I Think It’s Gonna Rain Today” with Barbra on vocals and Randy Newman on Keyboards from 1971 and “With One More Look,” an unreleased track from A Star Is Born. This is Barbra's first ever compilation of unreleased material in a career that has spanned 50 years.

With the exception of two songs where the original masters couldn't be located, all the tracks on Release Me were transferred from first generation master tapes. Every attention was paid to preserving the sonic perspective of the sessions as they were originally recorded and mixed.

An eight-time Grammy Award winner who is the only performer to have number one albums in five consecutive decades, her 51 gold albums, 30 platinum and 18 multi-platinum, each of which, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, exceeds all other female singers. Only Elvis Presley has achieved more Gold albums than she. The RIAA also notes that her 71 million albums sales tops the RIAA list of album sales by a female singer. With the recent debut at #1 of her “Love Is The Answer” album, her 9th record to reach that top spot, the time-span between her first and most recent Number One albums, exceeding that of any other performer or act, is now 46 years. Her most recent album, “What Matters Most,” debuting at Number 4, was her 31st to reach the Top Ten in the ratings charts, with which she passed The Beatles to become the third highest achiever in that significant statistic, exceeded only by the Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra.

"When I first began recording in the early 1960’s, we made entire albums in three days... we would try to do four songs in a three-hour session. Usually the last song got short-changed! Back then, we only had 4-tracks to record on... and that was for the orchestra and the vocal, so we didn’t have space to fix things. If I didn’t like a few notes or the arrangement wasn’t exactly right, I wouldn’t release the song. After all, records are forever! Many of the songs on this album only had one or two takes to choose from. That’s because we simply ran out of time, or possibly some musicians had another session to go to, or maybe another artist had booked the studio we were working in. Once I finish making an album, I rarely listen to it. So it was quite interesting to go through the vaults, find these recordings and hear them again with the benefit of hindsight. You could say I’m more forgiving of myself now. In fact, I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I actually like the overall recordings, even with their flaws. Although I could have re-sung certain lines where I thought they could be improved, I decided to leave every vocal the way it was. The thing I’m happiest about is that I have a great affection for all these songs. They appealed to me at the time... and still do. For better or worse, I’m much less of a perfectionist these days. Listening now, I actually think to myself, “The girl wasn’t half bad.” - Barbra Streisand

The Vault:
"Before entering, take a moment to imagine the sum total of your life’s work in one climate-controlled room. As you’re about to see, when it comes to Barbra Streisand’s legendary fifty-years of recorded music, this is exactly what you’ll find inside the vault.

"After you sign-in and security opens the reinforced locked door, the first thing you’ll notice are the floor-to-ceiling shelves with tape boxes from every era of her recording career – People, Color Me Barbra, A Star Is Born, The Bon Soir, Daniel Ellsberg Fundraiser, Judy Garland Show, The Hungry-I, McGovern Concert, Guilty, Yentl... on and on... titles both iconic and unfamiliar... public and private... released and unreleased.

"From the early ’60s you’ll see stacks of acetates (hard lacquer discs used to evaluate music before they’re pressed onto commercial LPs) and endless rows of half-inch 2-track and quarter-inch 4-track tapes spooled onto heavy metal reels... Je m’appelle Barbra, Simply Streisand, A Christmas Album, Funny Girl, Dolly, Philly ’66, Central Park ’67...

"As the years progress, there are 8-track tapes, 12-track, 16-track, 24-track – all contained in thick cardboard boxes with the recording engineer’s handwritten scrawl indicating their contents. The manufacturer logos - Ampex, RCA, 3M, Sony, AGFA, JVC, Scotch, Maxell, Panasonic – a parade of brands in quest of perfect sound... Classical Barbra, Lazy Afternoon, Superman, The Broadway Album, One Voice, Barbra w/Sinatra, Barbra w/Neil Daimond, Barbra w/Celine Dion, Barbra w/Josh Groban, Barbra w/Ray Charles, Barbra w/Donna Summer...

"There are safety reels (copies of original master tapes) and slave reels (sub-mixes created before the final mixes). Inside every box (hopefully) are ledgers indicating on which track(s) each section of the orchestra and Barbra’s vocals reside. On the floor you’ll notice large storage containers of cassettes, DATs (digital audio tape), micro-cassettes, VHS and Betamax tapes. Then there are more rows of shelves holding the digital era 48-track tapes and carrying cases with Pro-Tools files, which hold an infinite number of tracks... Back To Broadway, The Prince of Tides, The Movie Album, The Mirror Has Two Faces, Higher Ground, Clinton Benefit, A Love Like Ours, Madison Square Garden 2000, Love Is The Answer, Obama Benefit, What Matters Most, Women’s Heart Fund 2012...

"Even under ideal conditions, some of these tapes begun to oxidize. In order to play them back without damage, they have to be 'baked' and then transferred into a digital format for preservation.

"Once your mind takes in the sheer volume of the vault’s contents, another thought emerges... namely, how incredible it is that all these tapes and boxes reflect the evolution of a single artist. It is nothing less than the repository of a series of dreams that grow from youthful exuberance to adult resolve... and the thousands of hours of work it took to get there.

"All of Barbra’s glorious music... her ideas... the collaborative efforts of the fortunate songwriters, arrangers, mixers and producers who came into her orbit... the experiments... the occasional missteps and the many triumphs - all driven by the unstoppable force of one woman’s vision.

"Finally, it should be noted that there are still several empty shelves waiting to be filled with her future dreams. - Please come inside." - Jay Landers, Hollywood, CA, 2012

Released on 33 RPM 180 Gram Vinyl in a high quality gatefold LP Jacket this album has outstanding Sound Quality!

"Sweet Elizabeth" & "Strange..." - B.B. Driftwood
B.B. Driftwood's first album on the Opus 3 label is called “Southward Bound”, a stew spiced with country, soul, blues and gospel mixed with brazilian and cuban rythms. The words of wisdom, confusion, hope and joy are backed by various stringed instruments, upright bass, percussion and underlined by soulfull backing vocals.

"No One But Myself To Blame" & "Sticks & Stones" - Rebecka Sjoberg/Sticks & Stones
Bluegrass Music is a form of American roots music and is a sub-genre of country music. It has mixed roots in Scottish, music of African-American and the English, Welsh and Irish traditional music. But music is a living thing, constantly changing, evolving and influencing young contemporary, creative musicians. Bluegrass continues to inspire beyond the borders of the countries of its origins with a new band from Sweden adding another facet to the jewel of Bluegrass... Sticks & Stones.

"Sophisticated Shade" - Eric Bibb
It’s all about a hat up in Santa Fe! I once told my friend Dave Perkins about an unforgettable Panama I’d seen in one of my favourite hat shops. Dave was driving me around California at the time and we turned the story into a song as we were cruisin’ along. I finally got around to recording it with the wonderful Bo Juhlin on Sousaphone and Christer Lyssarides on Mandola.” - Eric Bibb

"I Can Heart It" - Therese Mercedes Myrhed
Tess has been singing all of her life at events great and small and her professionalism makes her much in demand for studio work. Her main sources of inspiration have been the female vocalists from the 50's and 60's, Brenda Lee, Connie Francis, Patsy Cline and Dusty Springfield and closer to home Swedish vocalists Siw Malmqvist and Inger Berggren.

"Grey Hound Ride" - Dan & The Electros
The production and recording of the album that this track is coming from is unique in the sense that it combines the delicate balance between the rather special sounds achieved during the period from 1955–1963 while at the same time taking advantage of contemporary recording techniques. This track is a tribute to Dick Dale (USA), who is known as “The King of the Surf Guitar”.

"Come Back Baby" - Eric Bibb
I started playing this song almost forty years ago, using Dave Von Ronk’s famous arrangement as my point of departure. I’ve recorded it before and I’ll surely record it again. It’s just one of those songs (like “Goin’ Down Slow”) that always takes me to new places.... [T]his one’s played on a Danelectro baritone guitar through my trusty little Vox Pathfinder amp. The vibe is a little swampier, allowing the vocal to lay a little heavier in the hammock. I hear some Lightnin’ Hopkins in there somewhere.” - Eric Bibb

"The Milky Way" - East
The breadth and range of styles, techniques and genre of “Pathfinder” album makes it a unique guitar album in the sense that it cannot be labelled – though perhaps “the complete guitar album” could be considered even though this was not the original aim. Bert “East” Östlund’s musical journey takes us not only to Detroit and Nashville in the USA and Newcastle in England but also to Rio and Paris! The music has all been composed and arranged by “East” himself with music of outstanding quality and featuring his considerable collection of guitars both acoustic and electric and where the Telecaster and Strat play leading roles.

"We'll Be Together Again" - Maria Winther
Maria Winther is a singer/composer from Stockholm who grew up in the regions of Borås. Winther was introduced to Opus3 Records by the late pianoplayer Gösta Rundqvist and in 2006 they recorded the album “Dreamsville” together. Also appearing on the record are the renowned musicians Joakim Milder on Tenor sax, Christian Spering on Double bass and Ola Hultgren on Drums. The songs on “Dreamsville” are some of Maria's favorite songs from The American Songbook, melodies that have been part of her for a very long time.

"Blues avec un Pont" - Tomas Ornberg's BLUE FIVE
Milton Mesirow, better known as Mezz Mezzrow (1899–1972), was an American jazz clarinetist and saxophonist from Chicago. Mezzrow is well known for organizing and financing historic recording sessions with Tommy Ladnier and Sidney Bechet. Mezzrow also played and recorded a number of times with Bechet and briefly acted as manager for Louis Armstrong. However, he is remembered as much for being a colorful character in his autobiography Really The Blues as for his music. His composition Blues avec un Pont (Blues with a Bridge) always appealed to Tomas Örnberg and fits his soulful and emotional way of playing the Clarinet and Soprano Saxophone.

"Cake Walkin' Babies From Home" - Eva Taylor
We think that Magic is the word which comes to mind in connection with this recording. It was certainly a magic night at The Pawnshop (Stampen) in March, 1976 when a young lady of 81 completely captured and entranced the audience with her stage presence and vibrant personality. Her communication with the musicians and audience combined to elevate her artistry beyond the aural level to include that indefinable ingredient... atmosphere. This atmosphere was retrieved from our vaults from 36 years ago and like a good wine has aged well as lovers of jazz from the twenties will appreciate.

"It's Never Too Late" - Dan & The Electros
This song is a tribute to Santos & Johnny who wrote the song “Sleepwalk” in 1959 which also inspired The Shadows who recorded it on their first LP (1961) and will always be associated with this song.

John Mayall's Blues Breakers Crusade 180g Mono LP (New and Sealed)

Sourced from the Magnificent-Sounding, Original U.K. Mono Masters, this Classic LP is pressed on 180 Gram Vinyl!

1967’s Crusade finds John Mayall welcoming another soon-to-be-famous young guitarist — 18-year-old fretboard phenom Mick Taylor, who would soon become a key member of the Rolling Stones — to the Bluesbreakers fold. With John McVie on bass and Hughie Flint and Keef Hartley sharing drumming duties, Mayall tackles an adventurous 12-song set that encompasses several Mayall originals and Taylor’s instrumental showcase “Snowy Wood,” as well as numbers by such notables as Willie Dixon, Eddie Kirkland and Sonny Boy Williamson. Regarded by many fans as the final third of the influential electric-blues trilogy that began with Blues Breakers and A Hard Road, Crusade followed its predecessors into the British Top Ten, while continuing to open young American ears to the timeless power of the blues.

Following the one-two punch of Bluesbreakers and A Hard Road, John Mayall cemented his status as blues-rock royality with 1967's Crusade. Finding a promising protege in 18-year-old guitar prodigy Mick Taylor, Mayall and the soon-to-be Stone created the astonishing guitar work captured in these grooves. The album's fretboard frenzy was a career high point for both artists and remains a powerful influence on each successive generation of budding guitarists who rediscover it.

Sourced from the magnificent-sounding, original U.K. mono masters, this classic LP is pressed on 180 gram vinyl and includes the complete original cover art. Mono edition.

'Album of the Year'
'Best Contemporary Jazz Album'

The legendary pianist and innovator explores the words and music of another musical pioneer Joni Mitchell on his first new studio recording for Verve since 1998's GRAMMY® Award winner Gershwin's World. Inspired in equal parts by Mitchell's poetic lyrics and unique melodies/harmonies, the musicians play with a restraint and elegance that achieves a perfect balance between the adventurous aesthetics of jazz improvisation and the emotional directness of one of the finest singer/songwriters of the last five decades.

Musicians:
Herbie Hancock, piano
Wayne Shorter, soprano & tenor saxophone
Dave Holland, bass
Vinnie Colaiuta, drums
Lionel Loueke, guitar
Norah Jones, vocals (1)
Tina Turner (2)
Corinne Bailey Rae (4)
Joni Mitchell (6)
Luciana Souza (
Leonard Cohen (10)

Selections:
1. Court and Spark - featuring Norah Jones
2. Edith and the Kingpin - featuring Tina Turner
3. Both Sides Now (Instr)
4. River - featuring Corinne Bailey Rae
5. Sweet Bird (Instr)
6. Tea Leaf Prophecy - featuring Joni Mitchell
7. Solitude (Instr)
8. Amelia - featuring Luciana Souza
9. Nefertiti (Instr)
10. The Jungle Line - featuring Leonard Cohen

Pianist Herbie Hancock's River – The Joni Letters (Verve) is the eleventh Grammy-winning album in the jazz legend's diverse long-ranging and diverse catalog. It was a shock to the pop music world for a jazz album to win over the recordings of stars such as Amy Winehouse and Kanye West, but the music on River represents a high level of sophistication and craftsmanship while remaining accessible and enjoyable for a popular audience.
A Jazz Master

Hancock rose to fame as a member of trumpeter Miles Davis' quintet in the early 1960s, where he displayed his prowess as a straight-ahead jazz soloist. That quintet – which also included Wayne Shorter, the saxophonist heard on River – was one of the pinnacle jazz groups of the 1960s. Since his time with Davis, Hancock has stretched his limits and has displayed his versatility and ease in various styles of music, including jazz, pop, funk, R&B, and rock.

Paying Homage to a Pop Icon

River is a tribute to Joni Mitchell, whose pure voice and colorful lyrics have lifted her to an iconic status in American folk and popular music. In the 1970s, Mitchell began to experiment with jazz concepts, featuring the drums and accompanying instruments like trumpets and saxophones, and singing over grooves and jazz rhythmic feels. Each track on River is a contemplative interpretation of some of Joni Mitchell’s jazz-influenced songs.
A Master's Interpretive Skills

Hancock’s technical virtuosity is not on display on this recording, but instead his sensitivity to the singers shines through. He lays down a lush bed on which the warm voices of Norah Jones, Tina Turner, Corinne Bailey Rae, Luciana Souza, and Joni Mitchell herself curl up and daydream. On “The Jungle Line,” featuring Leonard Cohen’s gravelly spoken word, Hancock’s gestures play the characters in the story.

His playing drifts with the comfort of a musician who has seen and done it all. He stays away from the fiery and frenetic lines that younger jazz musicians tend to employ. His solos are relaxed and reflective, and when he accompanies the singers, each of whom has a distinct style, his support allows them to grasp nuanced moods with meditative ease.

Top Tracks on River

Court and Spark” – Norah Jones treats this Joni Mitchell classic with restraint, as Wayne Shorter’s soprano saxophone interjections blossom into a beautifully agitated solo.

Edith and the Kingpin” – Tina Turner seems perfectly at home in this groove-oriented piece. Her voice is a great match with Shorter’s tenor saxophone sound.

River” – British pop star Corinne Bailey Rae gives an emotional rendition of the title track, her spirited embellishments evoking the image of a frozen river.

The Tea Leaf Prophecy (Lay Down Your Arms)” – Joni Mitchell’s voice on this track, although more limited in range than when she was younger, has taken on a smoky, haunting quality.

Nefertiti” – Absent of vocals, this track is a classic Wayne Shorter tune, and the instrumentalists demonstrate a playful freedom and a variety of moods.
Making Jazz Appeal to All

For the non-jazz listener, this recording will expose some of the subtleties, freedom, and cerebral ambiances that jazz is so good at achieving. Jazz aficionados can find satisfaction in the masterful way Hancock cracks open and explores Mitchell’s songs, and the way Shorter crawls inside the harmonies and nudges and pokes through the blanket of textures provided by the expert rhythm section, composed of Hancock, Dave Holland on bass, Lionel Loueke on guitar, and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums.

River is an example of one musical hero feeding off of the innovations of another, and the energy and appeal of the recording is due to the musical and expressive growth that results.

Noel Redding The Experience Sessions Classic Records 200g LP (New and Sealed)

NOEL REDDING The Experience Sessions (2003 US exclusive limited edition 12-track LP pressed on 200gram QUIEX SUPER VINYL, offering a collection of rare and previously unreleased studio recordings made by Redding during his 2¾-year tenure with the Jimi Hendrix Experience, this disc is also a cause for celebration simply for the fact that 3 of the tracks feature blistering guitar work from Jimi Hendrix himself! Presented in deluxe pasted gatefold sleeve, sealed in perforated tear bag).

Noel Redding: The Experience Sessions presents a collection of rare and previously unreleased studio recordings made by Redding during his two-and three quarter year tenure with the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and also contains the master takes of his two stand-out original compositions, Electric Ladyland Little Miss Strange and Axis: Bold As Love She's So Fine. Previously unreleased alternate recordings of these two essential tracks are included, offering fascinating insight into the inner-workings of the group in the studio.

This disc is also a cause for celebration simply for the fact that three of the tracks, the previously unissued "There Ain't Nothing Wrong" and "Noel's Tune (Take 1)" plus an out-of-print live rendition of "Red House," feature blistering guitar work from Jimi Hendrix. The basic rhythm track of the album opener, "There Ain't Nothing Wrong," was recorded December 28, 1967 by Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, and Traffic guitarist Dave Mason during the Electric Ladyland sessions, and it is a thrill to hear previously unearthed examples of Jimi's genius during this highly creative period for himself and the band. This recording is particularly unique in that Noel, under the direction of former Jimi Hendrix Experience producer Chas Chandler in 1989, composed lyrics, recorded a lead vocal, and added new bass parts to this previously unissued Jimi Hendrix session.

"Noel's Tune (Take 1)" recorded days after the Experience's historic February 24, 1969 performance at London's Royal Albert Hall, is a rave-up rocker featuring Noel pounding away on funky rhythm guitar while Jimi adds appropriately intense guitar work. "Red House," recorded live at the Olympia Theater in Paris on January 29, 1968, is a rare example of Noel recreating the studio take by forgoing the use of the bass in favor of bass-heavy rhythm guitar; Jimi's playing on this high-energy track is simply spectacular. It was in the aftermath of the release of Axis: Bold As Love that Noel began to develop new solo material in earnest. Noel Redding: The Experience Sessions presents the much sought-after unreleased tracks "Dream" and "Walking Through the Garden," both of which feature Noel on guitar and Jimi on bass, plus a previously unissued demo of "How Can I Live?." Noel would later re-record the song without Hendrix and include the new version as part of his first post-Experience release, Fat Mattress. Mastered from the original analog master tapes, under the supervision of Eddie Kramer, by George Marino at Sterling Sound in New York and released in cooperation with Experience Hendrix by Classic on our proprietary 200g Super Vinyl Profile. Rock at its finest!

Rickie Lee Jones - Rickie Lee Jones 180g Audiophile LP (New and sealed)

The self-titled debut by Rickie Lee Jones contains an outstanding collection of tunes including the hit "Chuck E.'s In Love".

Her debut on Warners, Rickie Lee Jones, released in 1979, won the Grammy for Best New Artist. She was hailed by one critic as a “highly touted new pop-jazz-singer-songwriter” and another critic as “one of the best--if not the best--artist of her generation.” In addition to the album’s brilliant songs--including the exceptional “On Saturday Afternoons in 1963,” the haunting “Last Chance Texaco,” and the popular “Chuck E’s in Love”--Jones was becoming a figure whose life was bearing a great deal of emulation by young women and men who found, in her deep and personal and idiosyncratic life and work, a model for the new generation of hipster: She was heralded as a trendsetter in dress (beret, subdresses, heels) and in lifestyle, given her by then famous relationship with two boys she helped to make famous, too: Chuck E. Weiss, a Los Angeles character, and the singer and songwriter Tom Waits, about whom Rickie has said: "We walk around the same streets, and I guess it's primarily a jazz-motivated situation for both of us. We're living on the jazz side of life."

"Grounded in jazz, copping its wit from jump blues, the music Ms. Jones made transformed the American musical canon into her private theater and hiding place." – The New York Times

SARAH MCLACHLAN Mirrorball 200g Classic Records 2 LP (New and sealed)

US exclusive limited edition 14-track 2-LP set pressed on 200gram QUIEX SUPER VINYL, the triple-platinum 7th long-player from the Canadian singer/songwriter, recorded live during 1998 with material taken from the 'Solace', 'Fumbling Towards Ecstacy' and 'Surfacing' albums, presented in deluxe pasted card gatefold sleeve, sealed in perforated tear bag.

Released at the front end of what might be Lilith Fair's last hurrah, Mirrorball is a take-home sampler of the live performances that have catapulted McLachlan into the modern rock stratosphere. Over half of the album's 14 songs are radio hits (including four of the first five), proving McLachlan's worth as a pop songstress bar none. With little dialogue between songs, and the sound quality so pristine, if it weren't for the occasional hoot and holler from the audience one would never know it's a live album. A must have for all Sarah fans.

1. Building A Mystery
2. Hold On
3. Good Enough
4. I Will Remember You
5. Adia

Miles Davis & Milt Jackson Quintet/Sextet LP (New and Sealed)

Recorded in the summer of 1955, this session was a half-year after the famed meeting of Davis and Jackson with Thelonious Monk on Christmas Eve 1954. McLean is yet another of the young talents fostered by Davis. Ray Bryant, in his introduction to a wider jazz audience, is also represented by one tune. The second number is Thad Jones.
