1967’s Crusade finds John Mayall welcoming another soon-to-be-famous young guitarist — 18-year-old fretboard phenom Mick Taylor, who would soon become a key member of the Rolling Stones — to the Bluesbreakers fold. With John McVie on bass and Hughie Flint and Keef Hartley sharing drumming duties, Mayall tackles an adventurous 12-song set that encompasses several Mayall originals and Taylor’s instrumental showcase “Snowy Wood,” as well as numbers by such notables as Willie Dixon, Eddie Kirkland and Sonny Boy Williamson. Regarded by many fans as the final third of the influential electric-blues trilogy that began with Blues Breakers and A Hard Road, Crusade followed its predecessors into the British Top Ten, while continuing to open young American ears to the timeless power of the blues.

Following the one-two punch of Bluesbreakers and A Hard Road, John Mayall cemented his status as blues-rock royality with 1967's Crusade. Japanese vinyl releases are premium quality pressings, much sought after by audiophiles and collectors alike. In the 1960s Toshiba pioneered top quality red vinyl pressings using their trademark ‘Ever-Clean’ process this utilised a special ingredient intended to prevent the build-up of static electricity on the vinyl. Japanese pressings are synonymous with quality - the vinyl shines like no other vinyl everything about their releases feels special. When US audiophile label Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab first released their series of high quality pressings the records were manufactured in Japan. The sonic quality of Japanese pressings is considered to be among the best in the world and, in addition, they are beautifully presented, their covers usually printed on better quality heavy stock paper and often including a bonus lyric insert with dual language Japanese & English text. As with most other countries, Japan produced promotional LPs in advance of the commercial release for marketing purposes. There are numerous different forms of promotional LP; these vary from plain white labels simply bearing a catalogue number to customised white labels similar in design to the finished label copy but without any of the colour or artwork - basically just a white label with black print. The most common forms of promotional LP are those that appear to be finished stock albums, but on closer inspection are designated promotional on the label. Whilst some actually state ‘Promo or Sample’ in English, most of these simply display the Japanese Kanji character set equivalent - shown below

Born in the U.S.A. is an album painted in big, broad strokes. But it was still too subtle for some--namely politicians who tried to tap the title track as a jingoistic anthem when it is in fact a bitter diatribe by a Vietnam War vet whose country forgot him. The rest of the album is a glorious grab bag of radio-ready populist anthems--his best display of pure pop songwriting ever--including "No Surrender," "Dancing in the Dark," "Bobby Jean," and "Glory Days" alongside more circumspect numbers such as "My Hometown" and "I'm On Fire." It's not true that there's no arguing with success, but in this case Springsteen's widespread acclaim was warranted.
